Dozens protest President Trump's visit to Liberty U
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Not everyone was excited that President Donald Trump came to Lynchburg Saturday.
Protesters were expressing their opinions about Trump, right across the street from Liberty University.
The 45th president gave the commencement address to the graduating class of 2017.
Some say they were there to defend public education, others say Trump is racist, fascist and anti-LGBT.
"He's ignorant, he's racist, he's sexist, how long do you want me to go on?" Neal Sumerlin, the coordinator for the Individual Lynchburg protest, said.
"We would like to say congratulations to the LU students. They are our future, which is why education for all is so important. Education, infrastructure, jobs, it's not that hard," Cindie Reinhold said.
Tensions ran high and police officers had to ask the protesters to back up.
Instead of holding a formal protest, members of the Lynchburg Democratic Party held a day of community service.
