E Fire on Lamoille Summit

Erratic winds fanned the flames of a lightning-sparked wildfire that had air and ground crews staging along Lamoille Summit. The “E” Fire swept through at least 300 acres of pinion, juniper and dried brush in the hills just above Elko after a lightning-laden storm rolled through at noon. Firefighters managed to steer the flames from several nearby homes east and west along the summit and kept the fire from crossing Lamoille Highway into the Elko Summit Estates, a gated community. Lamoille Summit was shut down as fire crews staged along the highway. There were no reports of injuries. Mop up was continuing late into the evening. According to Great Basin Coordination Center, 1.19 million acres have burned throughout Nevada during the 2017 fire season with 658 separate wildfires in Nevada this season.
